KENYA Airways is set to receive its largest plane on
Friday as it seeks to strengthen its long-journey flights.The airline will add to its fleet the Boeing 777-300ER
aircraft as it prepares for the introduction of new continental routes.
With a capacity of 400 passengers and over 20 tonnes
of cargo, the new Boeing will be the 45th plane owned by the Kenya Airways.
“As our fleet and route expansion plan gains
momentum, we are excited to be receiving the Boeing 777-300ER. It enters into
service in November and will be flying non-stop to Guangzhou in China,” KQ
managing director Titus Naikuni said.
On Friday Mr Naikuni (right) will be joined by
United States Ambassador to Kenya Robert Godec and the Cabinet Secretary for
Transport and Infrastructure Michael Kamau to receive the aircraft.
HUMANITARIAN SUPPLIES
KQ has 27 other Boeing aircraft — 25 passenger
planes and two cargo freighters.
The plane will be carrying humanitarian supplies
from the US destined for the Alaskan Sudan Medical Project in the Jonglei
region of South Sudan.
Among the features in the plane’s Premier World
section are full flatbed seats with leather foot-rests, laptop stowage and
armrests that also act as privacy dividers.
Others are Wi-Fi connectivity, in-flight
entertainment, a 15.4 inch touch screen monitor for each seat, power sockets
and USB ports.
