THE Tanzanian Government has increased foreign work permit fees and ordered that previous ones must be replaced before the end of this year.In a gazette notice dated August 1, 2012, the United Republic of Tanzania increased work permit fees for both those working and seeking employment.
Hard hit are those in categories A-1, A-2, and A-3 engaged in prospecting and mining and large scale trade and businesses who will now part with $3,000 (around Tsh 4.8m) the highest amount for a work permit fee. Others in the same category include members of professional bodies such as lawyers, accountants, doctors intending to practice such professions and consultancy services will pay a similar amount.It is just last year when Tanzania increased its work permit fee from $1,000) to current ($1,600). People intending to engage in large scale manufacturing and processing will part with $2,500.
And both artisans and those engaged in agriculture and animal husbandry will pay $2,000. For instance a worker employed by a specific employer and meets the required qualifications will now be required to pay $2,000 for renewal as well.
Immigration department
Those engaged in small scale farming, trading or fishing will pay with $1,000)for a work permit. “This is to inform our clients and the general public that with effect from August 1, 2012, as published through the government gazette the fee rates for various services offered by the Immigration department have changed as to the following effect,” a notice by the Principal Commissioner of Immigration Services of Tanzania said.
“...with effect from August 1st, 2012 they are required to submit their permits to immigration Offices for replacement.”
“The current Residence Permits shall cease to be valid with effect from 31/12/ 2012.
