AIR Tanzania Company Limited (ATCL) Workers Union has distanced its self from media reports that have been circulating in some media outlets recently portraying the union to be against the change in the company’s management announced by the Transport Minister Dr Harrison Mwakyembe a few weeks back.
Dr Harrison Mwakyembe nullified the appointment of the former ATCL CEO Paul Chizi thus appointing Captain Milton Lazaro to take up the company’s top position hinting that Chizi’s appointment into office had not followed the right procedures.
Mwakyembe while addressing a cross-section of ATCL workers at the Julius Nyerere International Airport in Dar es Salaam just a day after announcing the changes in the ATCL management ordered ATCL workers who were not satisfied with his choice (Lusajo appointment) to resign immediately.
A joint Statement issued by in Dar es Salaam yesterday, by the Acting Chairman of the ATCL Workers Union, Gerald Msuya and signed by the ATC House Chairman Gerald Msuya said the union will give the necessary support to the newly appointed management to ensure that the company moves forward.
“The ATCL Workers Union would like to make it clear that the reports that have been circulating in the media do not hold any truth. We respect Dr. Mwakyembe’s choice of appointment and we will render the necessary support to ensure that the company moves forward,” he said.
He said the information that has been flowing in the media is merely rumors’ by selfish individuals within the company who do not want the company to focus on serious business.
“More surprisingly, the stories that have been published always quote anonymous sources. If such people are communicating factual information, why do they have to hide their names?”
“The Workers Union has a constitution to follow that clearly stipulates the right procedures to follow in case of any grievance but surprisingly, we have not registered any complaints apart from seeing such complaints in the media,” he said.
He said the union would carry out investigations to determine people behind such misleading information urging that displinary action will be taken upon those who will be found to be in connection to such acts to serve as a warning to others.
"We need to focus on serious business rather that wasting time on refuting misleading information by selfish individuals, special thanks should go to the Government for entrusting us once again and we pledge not to let them down,” he said.
