Pinda salutes SBL for investing in Kilimanjaro region

By Business Reporter, Moshi
KILIMANJARO region residents have been challenged to embrace the recently inaugurated Serengeti Breweries Limited (SBL) plant in Moshi in a bid to achieve economic prosperity.
The call was made by the Prime Minister Mizengo Pinda during the official launch of the 500,000 hectolitre plant that will increase the company’s production capacity to 1.4 million hectolitres per annum.
Pinda who officiated at the event as the Chief Guest on Tuesday expressed gratitude for the company’s decision to invest in the region arguing that residents will reap big through job creation and other economies of scale which include development of infrastructure networks that will come along.
Pinda called upon the local residents to take advantage of all opportunities available now to improve their incomes and living standards.
"We expect many opportunities to come by following the inauguration of the plant. Apart from job creation, there are so many other opportunities that local residents can utilize to improve their daily incomes.
“It is no doubt that the investment will change not only change Moshi but also other neighboring communities so let’s embrace it,” Pinda said.
Pinda reassured SBL that Government would continue to support the company’s development projects and invited the company’s management at his office to discuss the way forward.
Earlier, the SBL Board Chairman Rtd. Judge Mark Bomani reinstated that the company had a sole responsibility of contributing to development projects in the company’s areas of operation.
He said the plant has already created 400 jobs for Moshi residents adding that up to 1000 people will benefit indirectly during the plant’s production cycle.
He noted that SBL has taken an initiative to empower small scale out growers especially barley growers who will supply the plant with the required raw-materials.
He said the company is in the last phases of securing land in Morogoro region that will be used to grow barley to feed the plant.
“We call upon people to take advantage of  our presence in the region since there is now guarantee that barley will now have a ready market,” he said.
